Songs and tunes together
Songwriters and Tunewriters Circle comes to Summerside
Summerside is set to host what could be one of the hottest Island musical gatherings this fall, when Studio Dimanche presents Songwriters and Tunewriters Circle at Centre Belle- Alliance. The Nov. 26 event will feature performances from well- known and up- and- coming artists sharing their songs as well as the stories behind them, in a spirited, yet intimate, setting. Studio Dimanche is an environmentally conscious recording studio located in Miscouche and the brainchild of Brent Chaisson, who is no stranger to the P. E. I. music scene.
The Chaisson family has established an esteemed reputation within the Island music community for over 40 years. Joe Pete Chaisson, Brent’s grandfather, along with Bishop Faber MacDonald, started the renowned Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival back in 1976.
Many will recognize the Chaisson name these days in no small part due to Brent’s brother, Tim Chaisson, the Juno award- winning member of the international Celtic sensation, The East Pointers. Older brother Brent, along with being an accomplished multi- instrumentalist, is a gifted recording engineer, who has put those talents to work in his latest endeavour, the recording studio and the Songwriters and Tunewriters Circle.
“It’s all about fostering an artist’s vision, all the while trying to reduce our carbon footprint,” says Brent. “The goal of this songwriters’ circle is all about creating opportunity and a forum to showcase great indie music.”
The Island artists include: renowned multi- instrumentalist Keelin Wedge; traditional trio sensation, DOC; country singer- songwriter, Danny Drouin; and awardwinning roots rocker, Rick Sparkes. Also included in the lineup are special guests from Cape Breton, Dara Smith- MacDonald and Adam Young, offering up their brand of Celtic flair.
The concert runs from 2 to 4 p. m. on Sunday, Nov. 26, at Centre Belle- Alliance in Summerside. Tickets are $ 10 at the door.
