It’s been a great first full year for the rejuvenated West Prince Chamber of Commerce says the organization’s president, Geoffrey Irving.

“The response has been great from businesses,” he said. Membership quickly swelled to 145, far exceeding the chamber’s own objective for the year, he added.

“We’ve got lot going on,” added Tammy Rix who took on the role of executive director.

One of those activities is planning for the organizations first ever Business Awards Gala. That will be held at the Mill River Resort on February 22 and guest speaker will be P.E.I. Lieutenant Governor Antoinette Perry.

Even more pressing, though, is organizing the annual meeting, set for Wednesday, Feb. 7, 6 p.m. at the Holland College West Prince Campus.

That includes nominating a new slate of directors for the coming year. Terms are for one year.

Irving, along with treasurer Mike Adams and director Michele Oliver sit on the nominating committee.

Pat Uptegrove, sessional instructor at the UPEI School of Business, will be the guest speaker, on the topic of, “The Diversity in our Community”.

Business Excellence Awards Gala

Tickets to the Business Excellence Gala, which will be held at the Mill River Resort from 6 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 22, are now available for purchase on-line at www.westprincechamber.com.

Rix says she has eight award sponsors and one corporate sponsor confirmed but would still welcome more corporate sponsors and door prizes for the gala event.

Door prizes can be dropped off at her office at Rural Action Centre, 455 Main Street, Alberton.

Chamber members can join the online voting to help select the Chamber’s Community Impact Award-winner. There are six nominees: Community Hospitals West Volunteer Program, Western Region Sport and Recreation Council, P.E.I. Angel Dresses, Community Inclusions, Knutsford Women’s Institute and Evangeline Central Credit Union.

Other awards to be presented at the Gala are Business Excellence, Emerging Business Growth Potential, Best Website/Social Media Marketing, Chamber Ambassador(s) of the Year and Lifetime Business Achievement. In total, there are 27 nominations.
