HIGH-END THEFT SPREE ENDS WITH 195-DAY SENTENCE.

Richard Wallace Cudmore sentenced after stealing items from Superstore, Canadian Tire and Princess Auto

A P.E.I. man who went on a high-end theft spree, damaged a mailbox and failed to attend court was sentenced recently to 195 days in jail. Richard Wallace Cudmore, 46, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr for sentencing in provincial court in Charlottet­own.

On July 5, Cudmore left Canadian tire with $949 worth of products. When he was approached in the parking lot for his receipt, he laughed at the manager and got in his vehicle and left.

Then on Aug. 1, Cudmore smashed his mailbox after losing his key for it.

On Sept. 11, Cudmore failed to attend in court.

On Oct. 15 and Oct. 17, Cudmore was seen on video walking out of the Superstore with a $799.99 TV on both days. On Oct. 19, Cudmore stole generator valued at $899.99 from Princess Auto. Finally, on Oct. 23, Cudmore went back to Princess Auto, stealing a $37.99 product. However, staff members were waiting for him. The item was later recovered.

Cudmore has a 23-page record dating back to 1990.

In addition to incarcerat­ion, Cudmore must pay restitutio­n to Canadian Tire, Canada Post, Superstore and Princess Auto and $800 to the victims of crime fund.

He received 18 months probation and is banned from attending those business locations.

He must also write a letter of apology to each store manager.
