Kickoff to Hockey P.E.I.’s hockey week

Panthers, Islanders, Capitals offer special games and pricing

As part of Hockey P.E.I.’s hockey week, the Island’s university, junior A and major junior squads are teaming up to offer special games and promotions.

First, the UPEI Panthers women’s team plays Mount Allison on Saturday. Game time is 7 p.m. at the MacLauchla­n Arena and all teams are invited free of charge to be part of a pizza party and a meet and greet after the game. Teams interested in attending can RSVP Bruce Donaldson at bdonaldson@upei.ca. Then, the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Capitals host the Edmundston Blizzard on Thursday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m., at Credit Union Place in Summerside. The Caps and Blizzard are battling for first place in the North Division of the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

All minor hockey players receive free admission if accompanie­d by an adult. Finally, the Charlottet­own Islanders of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and UPEI Panthers men’s team play in a doublehead­er Saturday, Feb. 10, at Eastlink Centre.

The Islanders kick things off with a battle against the Chicoutimi Sagueneens at 3 p.m., followed by UPEI tangling with St. FX at 7 p.m.

Tickets to both games are $10 for minor hockey players and families. There is a minimum of 10 tickets per team to qualify for the special pricing and must be ordered as a group booking in advance.
