Tight series between Wildcats, Kings
In midget AAA female final
There has not been a lot to choose between the Mid-Isle Wildcats and Kings County Kings in the first two games of the P.E.I. Midget AAA Female Hockey League championship series.
The two teams entered Game 3 of the best-of-five final at the South Shore Actiplex on Wednesday night tied 1-1 after a pair of 2-1 outcomes.
The Kings took Game 1 on Saturday, and the Wildcats needed double overtime to even the series with a double-overtime win in Game 2 on Monday night.
Game 4 is scheduled for Montague on Friday at 8 p.m.
Kings 2 Wildcats 1
In Montague, Jacy MacMillan and Gabrielle MacDonald contributed unassisted goals for the Kings, who took a 1-0 advantage into the final frame after a scoreless first period.
Cassie Doiron, assisted by Makayla Larsen and Keiran Andrews, countered for the Wildcats.
Wildcats 2 Kings 1 (2OT)
Larsen, who was set up by Andrews and Lexie Murphy, provided the overtime magic for the Wildcats. Andrews scored to give MidIsle a 1-0 lead after one period while Grace Gormley tied the game for the Kings in the second period.
Murphy and Carla Stewart picked up other assists for the Wildcats while Bailey MacLean and Emma Stewart drew assists for Kings County. Hannah LeClair earned the goaltending win.
