ELLIS, THIREN REGINALD

It is with great sadness that the family of Thiren Reginald Ellis of O’Leary, P.E.I. announce his passing on Sunday March 18, 2018 at the age of 97 years.

A veteran of

World War II,

Cpl. Ellis was a member of the

86th Bridge Company and was one of the brave and loyal soldiers to land on Juno Beach in Normandy, France and then advance into Belgium, Holland and Germany. In 2012, he was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and in 2015, he was awarded the rank of Knight, of the French Order of the Legion of Honour, for his involvemen­t in the liberation of France. Born in West Cape, P.E.I. on March 2, 1921, Thiren was the son of the late Melvin and Elizabeth (Harris) Ellis. He was a patient and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfathe­r and great grandfathe­r. He was predecease­d by his wife Shirley (Gorrill) Ellis in December 2017 and a daughter Paula in infancy. Thiren is lovingly remembered by his children, Betty (Carter Hutt) and Denton (Sylvia MacNeill). He was blessed with grandchild­ren Devan (Natalie) Hutt, Kirby (Lorna) Hutt, Parker (Kyla) Ellis and Paige Ellis and great grandchild­ren Kara, Damen, Harrison and Oliver Hutt and Liam and Lena Ellis. He will be dearly missed by his brother Aubrey (Myrna) Ellis, sisters in law Glenn MacNevin, Jesse Ellis and Greta Ellis as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Predecease­d by brothers Lorne and Milford Ellis and sister Shirley MacIsaac. Resting at the Ferguson Funeral Home and Chapel, O’Leary with visiting hours Friday evening from 6-9 p.m. Funeral on Saturday in the Chapel at 2 p.m. Comrades of the Royal Canadian Legion O’Leary Branch #2 will hold a service of remembranc­e for their late comrade at the funeral home on Friday evening at 5:45 p.m. In memory of Thiren, memorials to the O’Leary United Church Siding Project, Springfiel­d West Baptist Cemetery or a charity of your choice would be appreciate­d.
