Metros tie IJHL final vs. Red Wings

Game 5 in Abram-Village on Tuesday night

It’s all tied up, and is now a best of three.

The Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros edged the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings 4-3 on Sunday night to even the best-of-seven set 2-2. It was the second one-goal win in a row for the Metros, who won Game 3 in Abram-Village on Friday night by an identical 4-3 score. The Metros will visit the Red Wings in a crucial Game 5 scheduled for the Evangeline Recreation Centre on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Metros’ win also guarantees a sixth game will be played in Charlottet­own on Thursday at 8 p.m.

At the Cody Banks Arena, Sam Walsh stopped 38 of 41 shots, including 18 in the third period, in earning the goaltendin­g win. Bronson Banks made 23 saves on 26 shots for the Red Wings. The Metros scored their fourth goal into an empty net to go up 4-2, before the Red Wings got back to within one goal with seven seconds remaining.

Pat McGuigan (1-1), Nick Currie, Cale Pierce and Logan Toole scored for the Metros. Cody McPhee (2), Ryan Boswall, Jordan Birt, Jack Connell and Connor Gray chipped in with assists.

Jason Gallant (1-1), Chasse Gallant (1-1) and Braeden Stewart found the back of the net for the Red Wings, who won the first two games of the final 4-0 and 4-3. Helpers were credited to Calvin McRae, Nick Reeves and Cole Hackett.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, and the Metros took a 2-1 advantage into the second intermissi­on.
