Police deal with assaults, traffic-related offences

The following is a list of some of the noteworthy incidents and investigat­ions undertaken by Prince District RCMP between April 9 and 15:

Driver misses driveway

On April 9 at about 10:30 p.m., East Prince RCMP attended the scene of a singlevehi­cle collision on Route 2, near Kensington. The 78-yearold driver missed a driveway and the vehicle landed on its side in the ditch. The driver was uninjured and the vehicle was towed.

Collision in roundabout

On April 10 at about 3 p.m., West Prince RCMP received a call from a driver stating that a vehicle had collided with hers in the Bloomfield roundabout. The vehicle, a brown-coloured van, was entering the roundabout from Route 2, westbound, when the van collided with the front passenger tire of the complainan­t’s vehicle. The female driver of the van continued on and has not yet been identified. Anyone with informatio­n regarding this incident is asked to contact the RCMP.

Driver charged

On April 12, at approximat­ely 10:30 a.m., West Prince RCMP patrolling on Route 2, in Alma, pulled over a vehicle. The driver, a 30-year-old woman, had been prohibited from driving. She was arrested and charged and will appear in court at a later date.

No charges from disturbanc­e

On April 12 at about 9 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a 911 call of a disturbanc­e at a residence in Albany. Police attended and it was deemed the couple was simply having a disagreeme­nt. Both agreed to turn in for the night separately. No offence was committed and no further calls were received.

Lennox Island man arrested

On April 12, at approximat­ely 11:30 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a 911 call of an assault in Lennox Island. A 30-year-old woman claimed to have been assaulted by a 26-year-old man. The man was located, arrested and remanded into custody until his court appearance on April 16.

Keeping an eye on traffic

On April 12 at about 2:30 p.m., West Prince RCMP conducted a check stop on Route 2 in Rosebank. RCMP had been receiving complaints of vehicles travelling at high rates of speed around school dismissal time. Approximat­ely 60 vehicles were checked, which resulted in one Highway Traffic Act ticket, four written warnings and one verbal warning issued.

Following tracks to suspects

On April 13 at about 1:30 p.m., West Prince RCMP received a call of a break-in in progress at a house in Rosebank. Members attended and noticed fresh footprints in the snow. Two youths were located and arrested in a nearby field. The matter is still under investigat­ion.

False OnStar alarm

On April 13, at approximat­ely 8 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a call from OnStar requesting a wellbeing check on a vehicle that had the emergency button pushed. Members located the vehicle. The sunroof was open and rain got into vehicle. The owner believes it created an electrical short. There was no emergency.

Young driver issued stiff warning

On April 14 at about 8:30 p.m., East Prince RCMP observed a vehicle as it lost control on a turn while travelling at a high rate of speed on Route 10 in Searletown. The driver, a 20-year-old man, had open liquor in the vehicle. The roadside screening device was administer­ed and resulted in a ‘warning’. The driver was issued a seven-day driving suspension and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Assault reversal

On April 14, at about 9:30 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a call from a woman in Clinton stating she had been assaulted by a man. RCMP attended and after the initial investigat­ion, it was determined that in fact the woman had assaulted the man. She was charged and is scheduled to attend court in early May.
