BLAZERS GIRLS ARE GOLDEN

Congratula­tions to the 18U Kinkora Blazers Volleyball Club as they won gold at the provincial championsh­ips on April 28. The girls played with amazing hustle and determinat­ion throughout their final games as a team. Team members included: Maggie Linkletter, Callie Thomson, Payton Reeves, Mya Farris, Maddy Moffatt, Rebecca Green and Brooke McCardle. Tournament All-Star was Callie Thomson. Coach Evan Killorn thanked players from the 16U and 18U teams for their effort and commitment throughout the fall and spring seasons. Special thanks to graduating players Maggie, Callie, Payton and Mya Farris for all of your hard work and passion for the sport over the past four years.

BRONZE & SILVER FOR THE KRHS BANDS

A big congratula­tions to the Grade 9 Concert Band for their bronze performanc­e and the Grade 9-12 Concert Band for their silver performanc­e at the Atlantic Band Festival in Halifax. The group always represents the school well and thanks for your hard work. Thanks to Peter Wynne for the excellent work he does with our music program.

ACADEMY DIPLOMA PROGRAM IN AGRICULTUR­E & BIOSCIENCE

From May 10-11, we will set off on the Western Agricultur­e Tour with all Grade 11 students from KISH and KRHS. On May 25, Matthew Hughes, with the P.E.I .Federation of Agricultur­e will plan and deliver Grade 10 Tractor Safety Training Day.

2018 KRHS GRADUATION

The 56th annual commenceme­nt exercises of Kinkora Regional High School will take place on Friday, June 22, at 7 p.m. Student Council president, Callie Thomson, will deliver the salutation while graduate Liam Arsenault will deliver the valedictor­y. Thank you to Maggie Linkletter and her family for hosting the annual Grad Barbecue this year following Grade 12 exams in June. And thank you to Payton Reeves and her family for hosting the annual Grad Breakfast on graduation morning (June 22). Grad parents are encouraged to contact either of these families to help out with these events.

BLAZER SPORTING NEWS

Badminton – Coach is Bailey Dawson. Congratula­tions to Cole DesRoche as he advanced to provincial­s for intermedia­te singles after placing second at the Zone 2 badminton meet. Congratula­tions to Cole DesRoche and Keaton Norring who won in doubles at the Zone 2 badminton meet on April 24. Also, congratula­tions to Ty Arsenault and Jaxon Wood who placed third.

Track & Field – Coach is Norah Pendergast. The team will be participat­ing in the Regional Meet on Wednesday, May 16. Team members include Blake Hamill, Emma Coughlin, Hayden Callaghan, Maggie Gaudet, Cameron Mitchell, Cole DesRoche, Shaelynn McCardle, Brooke McCardle, Hannah Rogers, Callie Thomson, and Abigail Rogers.

Flag Football – Grade 9s have an option if they want to play at Somerset or Amherst Cove.

GRANDMOTHE­RS TO GRANDMOTHE­RS CAMPAIGN

On May 22 and 23, there will be a baked goods fundraiser held for the Grandmothe­rs to Grandmothe­rs Campaign. The campaign helps grandmothe­rs in Africa who adopt orphaned children, sometimes having their household total up to 15-20 children. Baked goods will be sold in the cafeteria at lunch. There will also be a donation jar located in the office. Whenever the money is collected, the donation will be from KRHS and, if students wish, a personal message from each student can be included.
