Lobster Fishers named presenting sponsor
The Lobster Fishers of Prince Edward Island will be the presenting sponsor of the 62nd Summerside Lobster Carnival. According to Culture Summerside, organizers of the carnival, the partnership is the perfect sponsorship fit. The board, made up of lobster fishermen from across P.E.I., promotes and markets Island lobster to the world, while the carnival, since 1956, has celebrated the role of lobster in Island culture and economy. As the primary fishery in Prince Edward Island, the lobster fishery is valued at more than $400 million while employing 8,500 people.
The Summerside Lobster Carnival, scheduled this year for July 12 to 14, attracts visitors from far and wide, who are interested in discovering why Islanders lay claim to the best tasting lobster in the world, which is fished by 1,280 independent fishermen.
At the 2018 carnival there will be plenty of opportunity to feast on lobster.
Event Chef Robert Pendergast, through his Lobster 101 demonstrations, will be creating numerous lobster dishes that demonstrate how tasty, affordable, healthy, and versatile Island lobster is.
Many of his creations will pair Island lobster with other Island produced food products to give a taste of what Prince Edward Island has to offer the world from both land and sea.
The carnival will also offer two traditional Island lobster suppers. The Lobster Fishers of Prince Edward Island Board is made up of 12 lobster fishermen elected by their peers from the membership of the six local fishermen’s associations. A number of the board members will be on the front lines of the carnival, cracking open those lobsters, and sharing the stories of their industry and why it plays such an important role in Island culture and economy.
