Lynx off to strong start

The Southside Lynx is off to a good start in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior Hockey League.

The Lynx won their first two regular-season games over the weekend, edging the North River Flames 3-2 on Friday night and the Tignish Perry’s Constructi­on Aces 5-4 on Saturday. In the other league game on Saturday, the first-place Sherwood-Parkdale Metros trimmed the Summerside Cover-All Constructi­on Crunch 6-1.

Lynx 5 Aces 4

At the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud, Tyson Beckingham’s second goal of the game with 4:26 remaining in regulation time broke a 4-4 tie as the Lynx rallied from a 4-2 third-period deficit. Dexter Harper (1-2), Colin Goodwin and Tyler Jurkowski also scored for the Crapaud-based Lynx, who led 1-0 after one period and trailed 3-2 at the end of two. Brayden Handrahan (2), Brady Albert and Colton Chaisson countered for Tignish, which is 1-2-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). Winning goaltender was Caelan Ferguson made 26 stops.

Lynx 3 Flames 2

At the APM Centre in Cornwall, Drew Grady (2) and Rhys Caseley scored for the Lynx while Owen MacFadyen and Kyle Doucette answered for the Flames (0-3-0). The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, and Southside took a 2-1 edge into the second intermissi­on.

Caseley’s goal 2:30 into the third period gave Southside a 3-1 lead, proved to be the game-winning tally.

Ferguson turned aside 25 shots in earning the win.

Metros 6 Crunch 1

At Credit Union Place in Summerside, Shawn Corney (1-2), Alex MacEachern (1-1), Logan Toole, Matt McAulay, Michael Jenkins and Drew Bowman lit the lamp for the undefeated Metros (3-0-0).

James Birt netted the lone goal for Summerside (1-2-0).

The period scores were 1-0 and 5-0 in favour of the Metros. Winning goaltender Sumner Docherty blocked 24 of 25 shots.
