Axewomen, Wolverines, Raiders advance to PEISAA senior AAA finals

Medal games go Saturday

The Westisle Wolverines, Three Oaks Axewomen and Charlottet­own Rural Raiders have advanced to the Prince Edward Island School Athletic Associatio­n senior AAA soccer championsh­ip games.

The matchups for Saturday’s senior AAA and A medal games, which will be played at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall, were determined on Semifinal Wednesday.

The Westisle boys defeated the visiting Bluefield Bobcats 3-1, and the Raiders edged the Colonel Gray Colonels 3-2 in an all-Charlottet­own matchup.

Westisle and Rural will play for gold on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. Only two points separated the teams in the regular season as Westisle finished atop the standings at 6-0-4 (won-lost-tied) while Rural was second at 6-2-2.

Colonel Gray (4-0-4) and Bluefield (2-2-4) will meet in the bronze-medal game at 3 p.m. The first-place Axewomen (52-1) punched their ticket to the girls’ gold-medal game at 1:45 p.m., with a 2-1 win over the visiting Colonels (0-6-2). Three Oaks will face second-place Charlottet­own Rural (4-2-2) for the provincial title after the Raiders blanked Westisle 5-0.

Colonel Gray and Westisle (21-5) will meet in the third-place game at 1 p.m.

Senior A

In senior A boys, the Souris Spartans defeated the Kensington Torchmen 5-1 in one semifinal while the Morell Marlins got by Charlottet­own Rural Team Two 1-0. First-place Souris (4-0-1) and third-place Morell (1-1-3) will clash in the provincial title game at 11:45 a.m.

Second-place Charlottet­own Rural Two (4-1-0) and fourthplac­e Kensington (2-2-1) will go head to head in the third-place game at 11 a.m.

The senior A girls’ final will also

feature an all-Kings County clash as top-seeded Montague (5-1-0) and Morell (3-2-1) meet at 9:45 a.m.

Third-place Morell edged second-place Kensington (4-11)

by a 2-1 score, and Montague topped Charlottet­own Rural Team Two 4-1 in the semifinals. Kensington and Rural Team Two (2-2-2) will play for the bronze medal at 9 a.m.
