Man in custody after invading home armed with knife
SUMMERSIDE - A 27-year-old Summerside man is in custody after allegedly committing a home invasion Thursday, while armed with a knife at a Summerside residence.
Just before 3:30 p.m., Summerside police received a 911 call reporting a home invasion in progress at a residence on Summer Street.
Two teenage girls were at home at the time the suspect entered the residence. Both stayed in the upper level of the house and could hear the suspect rummaging through the residence.
The girls contacted their father and grandfather. The grandfather, who lives nearby, attended the residence found the suspect inside the residence armed with a knife.
After being confronted by the grandfather, the suspect fled the residence and police were contacted. The grandfather and another witness were able to keep the suspect in sight until police arrived and took him into custody.
The suspect, who is well-known to police, will appear before the court later today to answer to charges of break and enter into a residence and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. No one was injured during the incident.
