Sock It Away made the step up to more seasoned competition but still made easy work of them Sunday as he continued his perfection in the top race at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park (CDP).

Marc Campbell was in the bike for the three-year-old colt’s 17th win in a row for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. Rockin Indy (David Dowling) set the early tempo in the $2,650 preferred pace from Post 1, cutting out splits of 28.4 and 59.1 before Sock It Away converted his first-over assault into a front-end trip before the three-quarters of 1:28.1.

The son of Pang Shui, who was making his first career start out of stakes competition, kicked clear in the stretch to romp by seven lengths in 1:57.1 over a windy track with a two-second variant.

Rockin Indy was second while Winter Blast (Jason Hughes) finished third.

Ryan Doucette celebrated his first career win as a trainer as Delcie Hanover posted a mile 5-1 upset in Race 2. Ken Murphy was in the bike for the 2:03 effort for the South Rustico trainer. Windemerenightlife continued his undefeated streak since coming home to P.E.I., as he scored in 1:59.4 for driver Dowling and owner-trainer Clair Sweet of O’Leary.

The four-year-old son of Articulator was making his fourth straight trip to the winner’s circle since coming back to his birthplace from Ontario in October.

Live racing continues Saturday and Sunday afternoon in Charlottetown.

Saturday

Capitalizing on an early break in stride by the heavy favourite, Dustlanemissmolly used the rail to her advantage and was on top at every call for an open-length score in the Saturday afternoon feature. Dustlanemissmolly was sent to the lead in the $2,350 fillies and mares open pace by trainerdriver Myles Heffernan and was unchallenged off the front to the first quarter in 30.1, due partly to the 2-5 favoured Prettyndangerous (Dowling) making a break in the first turn and never coming back into contention.

Julep Hanover (Wade Myers) launched a first-over assault on Dustlanemissmolly headed to the half in 1:00.4 through wet and windy conditions with a twosecond track variant, then the duo tripped the three-quarters in 1:31.2. Dustlanmissmolly then opened up on her foes to prevail by two-and-a-half lengths in 2:00.2.

Collective Wisdom (Drew Neill) came up the inside to finish second while Julep Hanover held on for third. Dustlanemissmolly’s visit to the winner’s circle was number 21 of her career and her fourth since coming into the ownership of Jackie Heffernan of Summerville.

Mach Of Ballykeel scored an upset in the $1,500 Cabo Pan Lucas retirement pace as part of a driving triple by Corey MacPherson.

Suicide Shift won the $1,950 open trot as the longest shot on the board in a field scratched down to four entries. Steven Shepherd was in the driver’s seat in the 2:04.2 victory for owners Margo Fisher of Fredericton, N.B., and Harold Shepherd of Stratford.

Results, B2.
