Assaults, fires, checkpoints among weekly round-up
Prince District RCMP report for Nov. 26 to Dec. 2
Editor’s Note: A total of 135 occurrences were investigated by Prince District RCMP between Nov. 26 and Dec. 2. The following is a list of some of the noteworthy incidents and investigations:
Assault reported
On Nov. 29, at around 7 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint of an assault at a residence in Burlington.
The complainant reported that an intoxicated 53-year-old man had assaulted a 27-year-old man.
The matter is still under investigation and charges are pending.
Man treated after ski-doo accident
On Nov. 29, at around 6 p.m., West Prince RCMP received a call of a ski-doo accident in Anglo Tignish.
A 30-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. Alcohol is not suspected and the man was the only rider on the ski-doo.
No one injured in Brockton fire
On Dec. 1, West Prince RCMP responded to a house fire in Brockton. A neighbour noticed the fire and alerted the residents. All three occupants of the residence were able to get out. It is believed the fire started at the generator which was powering the house during the outage.
Checkpoints conducted
On Dec. 1, as part of National Impaired Day, West Prince RCMP conducted checkpoints in Tignish, Alberton and O’Leary. Approximately 120 vehicles were checked and a few verbal warnings were given. No charges. East Prince RCMP conducted checkpoints on Route 1 in Borden and Route 2 in Miscouche. Approximately 80 vehicles were checked.
House destroyed
On Dec. 2, at around 12 a.m., West Prince RCMP received a call of a structure fire in Huntley. The occupants were away and came back to their house fully engulfed and destroyed. The cause is unknown at this point.
Recaps and reminders
East and West Prince RCMP received numerous calls of downed power lines and broken poles due to the high winds in the area. During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 13 traffic-related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erratically and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoints throughout the month of December, in various communities across Prince District, targeting cell phone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
