P.E.I. education group seeking proposals for $2,500 grant
An upcoming award aims to recognize schools for their efforts to support students transitioning from school to the workforce. Education 20/20 has announced the theme for the organization’s 2019 Excellence in Education award will be transition.
The education group commended the Council of Ministers of Education (CMEC) for also focusing on the transition from school to work. According to the McKinsey report, fewer than half of youth and only a third of employers believe that youth are prepared for the workforce.
Island schools are invited to submit proposals outlining their efforts to improve the transition process for their students with the successful school receiving a grant in the amount of $2,500 to be used in implementing their proposal.
The purpose of the award varies from year to year. Early awards recognized engagement, one recognized the application of technology throughout a school followed by a program to demystify mathematics.
The 2018 award went to Bluefield High School in recognition of the high degree of collaboration among teachers, students and the community at large in organizing an “Ag for Life” event designed to celebrate the community and its producers. Education 20/20 is a charitable organization devoted to improving the quality of education for all Islanders. Detailed information on the award is available at Educa-tion2020.ca.
