As a layer of fresh snow blanketed much of the province on Sunday, not everyone in Summerside was frustrated by the early bout of flurries. Robert and Sandra McNeill were out walking their standard poodles along Russell Street towards Heather Moyse Heritage Park and said they would be embracing the serene and quiet landscape. “It’s beautiful,” chimed Sandra.

Robert and Sandra McNeill were out walking their standard poodles along Russell Street towards Heather Moyse Heritage Park and said they would be embracing the serene and quiet landscape.

“It’s beautiful,” chimed Sandra. They were not the only ones looking on the bright side. Trevor Caissie and his dog Lester were out on an early morning walk along the same snow-covered street.

“We will be spending most of the day outside,” smiled Caissie at his pup wrapped in a warm coat as a snow-plow cleared a path.

Snow fall began Saturday night with expectations of 10 to 15 centimetres in some areas with possible rain and wind conditions.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for the province on Sunday. According to Environment Canada, strong northwesterly winds gusting to 70 km/h were expected totalling up to 80 km/h Sunday night giving blowing snow over exposed areas. A low-pressure system moving from the southeast of Cape Breton crossed Newfoundland Sunday afternoon and evening. Rain or snow tapered to flurries over central and western P.E.I. Sunday
