- JOURNAL PIONEER STAFF newsroom@journalpioneer.com

The Island’s French-language school board has established four committees in hopes to improve the organizations decision-making performance.

The Commission scolaire de langue française (CSLF) now features a political and partnerships committee; infrastructure and finance committee; a pedagogy, cultural and community affairs committee; and the human resources committee.

The groups meet regularly to complete the work of CSLF staff.

The Political and Partnerships Committee has met frequently since August to draft lobbying strategies and collaborative projects with volunteer groups and government institutions for the consideration of the whole board. Committee members Stéphane Blanchard, Emile Gallant and Gregory Urier have thus far tackled the infrastructure budget, the underfunding of the Frenchlanguage education system and the allocation of federal funds through the Official Languages in Education Program.

The Infrastructure and Finance Committee, formed by Lynne Faubert, Janine Gallant and Diane Shortt, contributed to the preparation of the CSLF’s infrastructure budget submitted to the Province on Sept. 15. It will soon focus on the CSLF’s yearly operating budget.

The Pedagogy and Cultural and Community Affairs Committee tackles new pedagogical approaches and strategies, notably deep learning and 21st Century skills, as well as the potential cultural and community activities the CSLF and its six schools could organise to enhance the students’ identity formation and pride in their Acadian and Francophone culture and language. Darlene Arsenault, Gilles Benoît and Tammy Shields sit on this committee. Finally, the Human Resources Committee, formed by Darlene Arsenault and Gilles Benoît, support the Superintendent in the elaboration of human resource policies and strategies.
