Aces sweep back-to-back games

Crunch, Flames win, lose in weekend action

It was a four-point weekend for the Tignish Perry’s Constructi­on Aces.

The second-place team in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League swept back-to-back road games to improve to 14-5-0 (wonlost-overtime losses). Tignish outlasted the host Summerside Cover-All Constructi­on Crunch 8-6 on Friday night, and then downed the North River Flames 8-1 on Saturday.

The Crunch bounced back to defeat the Crapaud-based Southside Lynx 10-4 on Saturday evening. Also on Friday night, North River doubled Southside 6-3.

Aces 8 Flames 1

At the APM Centre in Cornwall, Brayden Handrahan (2-3), Dawson Sellick (2-2), Brandon Forsythe (2), Will Tuplin and Ryan Campbell scored for the Aces. Brayden Arsenault added two assists.

Alex Young countered for the Flames (7-12-2).

After the first period ended in a 1-1 tie, Tignish scored five unanswered second-period goals to open up a 6-1 advantage. Winning goaltender Colin Gaudette made 33 saves.

Aces 8 Crunch 6

At The Plex in Slemon Park, the Aces built period leads of 5-2 and 7-3.

Sellick (3-1), Tuplin (2), Brady Albert (1-3), Bryar Smallman and Kane Arsenault accounted for Tignish’s scoring. Handrahan chipped in with three helpers. Kolton Stright (2), Cory Ramsay (1-1), Brandon Arsenault (11), Remi Arsenault and Connor Jones found the back of the net for Summerside (6-13-0). Brandon Hastings added three assists. McGuire Gallant turned in a 32-save effort in notching the goaltendin­g win.

Crunch 10 Lynx 4

At The Plex, Remi Arsenault’s five-goal effort ignited Summerside’s offence. James Birt (3-1), Stright (1-2) and Ramsay also lit the lamp while Brandon Arsenault

contribute­d three assists. Kyle MacGuigan (1-1), Chandler Dawson, Rhys Caseley and Alex Taylor answered for the Lynx (5-12-2). Tyson Beckingham added a pair of assists.

The Crunch held period leads of 4-2 and 7-4.

Devon Newberry turned away 45 of 49 shots for the goaltendin­g decision.

Flames 6 Lynx 3

At The APM Centre in Cornwall, Young (2), Zac MacKay (1-3), Kurtis Green (1-1), Drew Nelson and Spencer Beaton scored for North River, which received two assists from Connor Andrews.

The Lynx goals came off the sticks of MacGuigan, Mac Buchanan and Nathan Paynter. Beckingham collected two helpers.

The score was tied 2-2 after one period, and the Flames were ahead 4-3 at the end of 40 minutes.

Winning goaltender Connor Chapman made 26 saves on 29 shots.
