Kings score two late goals to even series vs. Regals

Game 3 of midget AAA final on Thursday

SUMMERSIDE – There has been no lack of excitement in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League championsh­ip series.

After the regular-season-champion Western Regals pulled out a 3-2 overtime win in Game 1 on Saturday night, it was the second-place Kings County Kings’ turn to stage an exciting win in Game 2. The Kings scored two goals in a 1:06 span with under seven minutes remaining in the third period to pull out a 3-2 come-from-behind win at the Eastern Kings Sportsplex in Souris on Tuesday night.

The teams are now tied 1-1 heading back to the Jacques Cartier Arena in Alberton for Game 3 in the best-of-five series on Thursday at 8 p.m. Game 4 is scheduled for Souris on Sunday at 6:40 p.m.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the opening 20 minutes of Game 2, and the Regals took a 2-1 lead into the second intermissi­on. The score remained that way until the Kings’ Riley Jamieson tied the game with 6:57 remaining, and Jarrett Victor connected for an unassisted game-winning goal with 5:51 showing on the clock.

Gabe Hartlen also scored for the Kings, who completed the regular season 19-6-3 (won-lost-tied). Assists went to Jacob King, Jacob Outhouse and Cam White.

Chase Gaudette (1-1) and Sam Hackett answered for the Regals (25-1-1). Kalim DesRoches (2) and Chandler DesRoches added assists. Nicholas Jamieson earned the goaltendin­g win. Aiden Williams was between the pipes for the Regals.
