Montague, Bluefield win PEISAA senior AA crowns
SUMMERSIDE – The Montague Vikings and Bluefield Bobcats won the P.E.I. School Athletic Association/Domino’s Pizza senior AA basketball championships at Holland College in Charlottetown recently.
The Bobcats trailed for most of the boys’ gold-medal game, but were able to take the lead early in the fourth quarter, and hold off the Morell Marlins for a 67-58 win.
The girls’ title match featured Montague getting by Grace Christian 57-45.
In the bronze-medal games, the Kensington girls outscored Charlottetown Rural 48-30, and the Montague boys won 53-46 versus Charlottetown Rural.

MONTAGUE 57 GRACE CHRISTIAN 45
The girls’ final was much closer than the final score would indicate. Montague led by just two points with three minutes left, before pulling away.
Allison Vandaele scored a game-high 20 points to lead Montague, which received 18 points from provincial championship tournament most valuable player (MVP) Morgan Jardine.
Alexa Rancourt (19) and Ezzy Able (8) led Grace Christian.
Montague led 28-22 at the half.
BLUEFIELD 67 MORELL 58
Aike Wilting, who was named the MVP of the provincial championship, scored 17 points for the Bobcats.
Daniel Willis (12) and Brady Rodd (10) were the other top scorers.
Thomas Craig (19), Isaac Compton (14) and Diego McGarry (12) paced Morell offensively.
KENSINGTON 48 CHARLOTTETOWN RURAL 30
A balanced attack keyed Kensington’s bronze-medal victory.
Ellen Cole (11), Abby Christopher (9), Hillary MacLean (8) and Hillary Murray (8) were Kensington’s leading offensive producers.
Molly Birtwhistle (6), Megan Phalen (6), Casey Currie (5) and Olivia MacLennan (5) were Rural’s top scorers.
MONTAGUE 53 CHARLOTTETOWN RURAL 46
Montague jumped out in front early, and would hold the lead throughout the game as Rural could never get closer than five points.
Hunter Wight (17) and Logan Fitzpatrick (10) were Montague’s top scorers.
Justin Yang and Tyson Monaghan each had 13 points for Rural.
