Forsythe leads Tignish to win at home

TIGNISH – Ryan Campbell’s power-play goal with 3:07 left in the second period was the winner Saturday as the Tignish Perry’s Constructi­on Aces downed the Sherwood Metros 5-3.

The best-of-seven Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League final is tied 1-1, with Game 3 at the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottet­own on Monday at 7:20 p.m.

At the Credit Union Arena in Tignish, the host Aces jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period.

The Metros cut the deficit to 3-2 with nine minutes remaining in the middle stanza, before Campbell pushed the lead to two.

Brandon Forsythe led the Aces with a goal and two assists while Dawson Sellick had a goal and a helper. Tyson Beckingham and Brayden Handrahan also scored. Lexin Gaudet had a pair of assists while Cameron Gillis and Oliver Smallman each chipped in one.

Will Levasseur, Marc Cummiskey and Shawn Corney scored for the visitors, with assists going to Derian Johnson, Logan Toole and Michael Jenkins.

McGuire Gallant stopped 35 shots for the victory while Sumner Docherty made 27 saves in the loss.

Tignish was 2-for-7 on the power play while Sherwood was 1-for-4.

GAME 1

The Metros and Aces had fans on the edge of their seats in Game 1 at Cody Banks Arena on Friday night.

Corney’s second goal of the game with 31 seconds remaining in the third period lifted the Metros to a 5-4 win. Corney’s game-winning tally came 13 seconds after Handrahan had pulled the Aces into a 4-4 tie. Forsythe’s power-play goal with 1:04 left started the Aces’ rally from a 4-2 deficit.

The Metros, who finished the regular season in first place on the strength of a 21-3-2 (won-lostoverti­me losses) record, held period leads of 2-1 and 3-1.

Marc Cummiskey (1-1), Patrick Kenny and Nick Brown also scored for the Metros. Toole and Levasseur each added two assists.

Sellick (1-1) and Curklan Fraser netted the other goals for Tignish, which completed regular-season play in second place at 20-6-0. Gillis, Smallman and Keaton Horne added single helpers.

Overall, the Aces held a slim 43-42 shots-on-goal advantage.

James Duffy was the winning goaltender. Colin Gaudette was between the pipes for Tignish.

The Aces were 1-for-7 with the man advantage, and the Metros had a 1-for-5 summary on the power play.
