Express sweeps Warriors

SUMMERSIDE – The Eastern Express completed a three-game sweep of the Prince County Warriors in the best-of-five semifinal series in the P.E.I. Major Bantam AAA Hockey League on Saturday.

After winning the opener 3-2 in double overtime on Thursday and Game 2 by a 3-1 score in O’Leary on Friday night, the Express posted a series-clinching 7-2 victory. The Express will now face the winner of the Central Attack/Mid-Isle Matrix semifinal series. The Attack took a 1-0 series lead into Game 2 in Crapaud on Sunday after winning Saturday’s Game 1 10-2.

At the Pownal Sports Centre, Nolan Stewart’s four-goal effort paced the Express. Caleb MacDonald (1-2), Avery Brown (1-1) and Michael Kiley also scored.

Clark Allain and Carson MacArthur replied for the Warriors.

Eastern built period advantages of 3-1 and 5-2.

Winning goaltender was Nathan Bailey. Eastern outshot Prince County 41-20.

At the O’Leary Community Sports Centre, Allain set up Patrick Shea’s goal that gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the middle frame, but the Express answered back with two goals before the intermissi­on, and added an insurance tally in the third period.

Stewart, MacDonald and Ross Campbell scored for the Express.

Winning goaltender was Ethan Smith. Kiefer Thompson handled the goaltendin­g duties for Prince County.

ATTACK 10 MATRIX 2

At MacLauchla­n Arena in Charlottet­own, Cam Squires netted a hat trick and added a pair of helpers to pace the Attack. Isaac Vos (1-4), Luke Coughlin (1-1), Tyler Worth (1-1), Bates Ling (1-1), Chris Koughan, Jonah MacDonald and Max Sentner also dented the twine for Central. Daimyan Boyle, Keegan Callaghan and Will Morrison all contribute­d three assists.

Carson MacDougall (1-1) and Christophe­r MacDougall countered for the Matrix.

Winning goaltender was Jack Howatt.
