Benefit for Kenny MacLean

Well-known Wal-Mart greeter undergoing treatments in Halifax

-

SUMMERSIDE — A benefit for Summerside resident Kenny MacLean will be held this weekend to aid in travel and health expenses.

MacLean, recognized as the friendly greeter at the Wal-Mart in Summerside, was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2013.

Since his diagnosis, he has undergone numerous surgeries and radiation therapy. Recently, however, it was discovered that a bone in his skull was dying. In an effort to reverse the situation, MacLean will receive hyperbaric oxygen treatments in Halifax.

Often used to help scuba divers recover from decompression sickness, hyperbaric oxygen treatments can also treat serious infections, bubbles of air in blood vessels, and wounds that won’t heal as a result of diabetes or radiation injury.

MacLean will undergo treatments five days a week for four to six weeks in a hyperbaric chamber.

While MacLean was able to work during past treatments, this new treatment plan will require him to be away from home for long periods of time and will be unable to work causing a financial strain.

As a result, a benefit has been organized for MacLean to help raise funds to cover future costs of incurred.

The event will be held at St. Eleanors Lions Club, 121 East Dr., Summerside. Admission is by donation. There will be a 50/50 draw, raffle, silent auction and Canteen. Musical group Phase II will provide entertainment.

For more information or to donate an auction item call Lucas MacLean at 902-303-9524 or Marissa McCarthy at 902314-9524.
