MEDDLING WITH MEDICAL STAFF

-

When I first heard we were losing a doctor/specialist from the cancer centre, I immediately guessed who it would be. It seems to me we are losing doctors at a faster rate than recruiting new ones. There has to be a reason why this continues to happen. According to the few doctors I have spoken with say the main problem is with government meddling. The latest doctor to leave Dr. Ashish Masureka worked in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Cancer Treatment Centre.

This is a huge loss for the centre and for me personally.

Dr. Ash diagnosed my very rare blood disease and made the correct decision in the treatment I needed. He scheduled me for chemo treatment and was quite upset when the health department refused coverage. My disease was not considered to be cancer so therefore not covered.

My MLA and minister of Health claimed they could not interfere with the department of health decisions. What? The minister of Health cannot make health department decisions? The original cost was estimated at $40,000 but later was revised to a little less than $20,000. I managed to raise enough money with the help of a great many family and friends. After the chemo, my disease went into remission as Dr. Ash expected. Now this amazing man is leaving and I must cross my fingers I remain in remission. It’s time politicians stopped interfering in the Health department and let doctors do what they do best.
