MacArthur, Biggar, Ertel make draft list

SUMMERSIDE — Two players from Prince County and a Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals forward made the NHL Central Scouting Bureau’s final rankings for North American skaters for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

They are forward Bennett MacArthur of Summerside, Zach Biggar of Portage and forward Justin Ertel.

MacArthur and Biggar were teammates with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Ertel played the 2020-21 season with the Capitals in the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

MacArthur and Biggar previously played with the O’Leary-based Prince County Warriors major under-15 program, the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild major under-18 team and the Capitals.

The 20-year-old MacArthur, ranked in the fifth round, is listed at 132 after scoring 28 goals and adding 12 assists for 40 points in 33 regular-season games.

MacArthur also received two team awards froam the Titan — most improved player and offensive player of the year.

MacArthur joined the Titan halfway through the 201920 season after recording 41 points, including 21 goals, in 30 regular-season games with the Capitals. He had 12 points, including eight goals, in 33 games with the Titan that season.

The 18-year-old Biggar, who completed his rookie season with the Titan, is ranked in the sixth round at 164. He had 11 assists in 33 regular-season games.

Biggar was recently named the Titan’s rookie of the year and the recipient of the fanfavouri­te award as voted on by the fans.

Ertel, who is from Mississaug­a, Ont., is also ranked in the fifth round at 150. He registered 28 points — nine goals and 19 assists — with the Capitals.

The 18-year-old recently committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey at Cornwall University next season.
