SUMMERSIDE HERITAGE AWARD WINNERS

• Anne Farrell was named volunteer of the year for her work with the Summerside cultural sector in 2021

• Katherine Dewar took home publicatio­n of the year for her book, We’ll Meet Again: Prince Edward Island Women of the Second World War and her contributi­on to educating others on P.EI.’s military history

• The Heritage Award of Honour was given to Dorothy Griffin Farish for her lifetime contributi­on to recording, preserving and celebratin­g Island heritage

• The Cultural Award of Honour was presented to Joan MacGillivr­ay for her lifetime contributi­on to the arts

• Anne Montgomery Neatby and Janet Whytock received Cultural and Heritage Activity Awards for curating the exhibit William Stuart: Portrait of an Island Artist.

• Several people received Cultural Activities Awards, including Noella Moore for her work as a Mi’kmaq artist, instructor, exhibitor and cultural ambassador.

• Nathan Wiley for the release of his fifth album Modern Magic

• Summerside poet, musician and teacher Rick Sparkes for his 2021 album, Pleasure in the Pathless Woods

• Richard and Faye Wood for co-creating, co-producing and staging the show Richard Wood: Through the Years at the College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts in the summer of 2021

• Kayla Sark was honoured for exhibiting her work in two major shows in Summerside at the Eptek Art and Culture Centre in 2021

• Mary McDonald Rissanen for her book Choosing the Island – Through the Warp and Woof of Time: Women who made 20th century P.E.I. their home

• Thomas Mahoney received a nod for the 2021 publicatio­n of his book, The Deer Yard and Other Stories
