- ATLANTIC BRIEFS DESK sw-briefs@saltwire.com

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. Prince County motorists are being advised of repairs to the Wilmot River Bridge and Bayview Bridge that began on

Monday, April 25.

In an April 22 news release, the province said the Wilmot River bridge on Route 1A will continue to be open to two-lane traffic while the bridge undergoes construction. However, oversized vehicles will be required to use an alternative route due to lane widths.

The province said repair work on the bridge is expected to take around nine weeks.

At the Bayview bridge, a temporary bridge will be built across from the main bridge while crews prepare to remove and replace the current structure.

Two-lane traffic will continue through Route 6 while the temporary bridge is being built.

The temporary structure will feature a separate lane for pedestrians and cyclists and is expected to open in July.

The new bridge is expected to be open to all traffic in January 2023.

Motorists are asked to use caution when driving through either area.
