SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Two art exhibits are being showcased in Summerside as part of Culture Summerside's Sixty Days of Fame series.

The Byrds of a Feather art exhibit is at the MacNaught History Centre and Archives gallery to display the work of Elise Arsenault and Meaghan Roberts.

The two women have been creating art together since Roberts arrived on the Island from Alberta.

The exhibit celebrates the last decade of their work together as best friends, mothers and artists on P.E.I.

Roberts is inspired by the mind of Hayao Miyazaki. Her goal is to spread her art worldwide, and she already has art in six countries.

Arsenault's love for Island seascapes and flowers has shaped her work. The works of Monet and Van Gogh have inspired her use of texture and colours.

The exhibit runs from Feb. 1 until the end of March. It can be viewed free of charge, Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 75 Spring St. in Summerside.

Also, Phyllis Gay's first solo exhibit, Imagination and Nature, is being displayed at the Lefurgey Cultural Centre in Summerside.

Nature is Gay's inspiration as she loves being outside in nature with her camera, where she spends time with her family exploring trails.

She is a self-taught member of the Summerside Art Club and does not remember a time she did not want to be an artist.

“Painting makes my soul happy. I can feel the difference when I have gone for a long time, not painting. I know I will never stop learning in my art. Each new piece has something to teach me,” said Gay.

The exhibit runs Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 205 Prince St. in Summerside from Feb. 1 to the end of March.
