Granites, Aces record WPSHL wins to open home-and-home series
Two games on tap this week in Kensington, O’Leary
The Granites, playing their fifth game in a row on the road, made it four straight wins with a 4-3 decision over the Wellington Flyers in Abram-Village on Jan. 28. The teams will meet in Kensington on Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
The Kensington Granites and Tignish Aces won the opening game of their respective home-and-home series in the Lone Oak West Prince Senior Hockey League (WPSHL) last weekend.
The Granites, playing their fifth game in a row on the road, made it four straight wins with a 4-3 decision over the Wellington Flyers in Abram-Village on Jan. 28. The teams will meet in Kensington on Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
In Tignish on Jan. 27, the host Aces defeated the O’Leary Maroons 10-3. The two arch-rivals will meet again in O’Leary on Feb. 3 at 8 p.m.
The Granites, who will close out the regular-season schedule with four home games, sit atop the fourteam league standings with a record of 4-1-1 (won-lost-overtime losses), three points ahead of the Aces (32-0).
The Maroons (2-3-0) sit in third place while the defending-champion Flyers (1-3-0) are in fourth position.

At the Evangeline Recreation Centre, Brodie MacArthur (1-2), Kayden Peck (1-1), Tyler Gallant and Parker Ronahan scored for the Granites, who received a 21-save performance from goaltender Tyler Caseley.
Evan Gallant scored a hat trick to account for Wellington’s scoring.
The teams were tied 2-2 after the opening period, and the Granites took a 4-3 lead into the second intermission. Luke Oliver stopped 22 of 26 shots for the Flyers.
ACES 10 MAROONS 3
At the Tignish Credit Union Arena, the Aces built period leads of 3-1 and 8-2.
Keaton Horne (2-2), Alex Morrissey (2), Brad Morrissey (2), TJ Shea (1-5), Dawson Sellick, James Doyle and Isaac Callaghan scored for the Aces.
Mike MacIsaac, Nick Reilly and Nick Tuplin replied for the Maroons.
Winning goaltender Colin Gaudette made 32 saves.
