Team Two Capitals win under-11 recreational tournament at Credit Union Place
The Summerside Team Two Capitals won the 2024 Centennial Auto Group under-11 recreational hockey tournament at Credit Union Place in Summerside recently.
The Capitals followed up a 3-0 (won-lost) record in round-robin play with three close victories in the playoff round to complete tournament play a perfect 6-0.
The Caps started their playoff run with a 4-0 win over Team Two in an all-Summerside quarter-final.
Wyatt Perry recorded the shutout while tournament most valuable player Cohen Lyle netted his second hat trick of the tournament to lead the Capitals. Jaxson Stone also scored for the Capitals, who received assists from Rhys Buckley, Rhett Dawson and Easton Hustler.
In the semifinals, the Capitals earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Kensington Vipers.
Denver Enman (1-1), Stone 1-1, Buckley and Lyle scored for Summerside. Assists were credited to Hayden Arsenault and Rhett Dawson.
The Capitals then faced the Three Rivers Titans in the championship game. Just like the semifinals, it went down to the wire as the Capitals prevailed 3-2.
Lyle, Stone and Buckley provided the goals for the Capitals. Arsenault, Enman and Jack Butler chipped in with assists.
Henry Delodder and Jensen MacPhee countered for the Titans. Irvin Sampson contributed an assist.
In round-robin play, the Capitals defeated the Northumberland Bruins 3-0,
In the semifinals, the Capitals earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Kensington Vipers.
Charlottetown Abbies 6-2 and the Sherwood Team One Falcons 5-4.
Against the Bruins, Lyle (11), Buckley (1-1) and Enman accounted for Summerside’s scoring. Arsenault, Stone and Dawson added assists while Emerson Walfield registered the shutout.
Emerson Rodgerson scored twice while Enman (1-2), Lyle (1-1), Butler (1-1) and Buckley added single goals in the Caps’ victory against Charlottetown. Arsenault, Stone and Graham Carlile set up the goals.
Lyle led the Caps against the Falcons with a three-goal performance while Arsenault and Stone netted single tallies. Alex Waite (2), Buckley, Enman and Dawson were credited with helpers.
