General Idea

This group of three Toronto artists wanted to get rid of the idea of an artist as an individual, preferring to use mass media and pop culture. From the late 1960s to the early 1980s, they used everything from performances to sculpture, videos and inexpensive posters. They briefly published their own magazine called FILE, which looked a lot like the hugely popular American publication LIFE.
