This past weekend 10 Kenora Swim Sharks hit the water in Winnipeg at the St. James Seals Last Chance for Man-Sask Meet.

It was solid weekend for all athletes. New personal bests were achieved, and Alex Illman led the way for the Sharks, winning five gold and three silver medals. Gabe Mastromatteo won five gold medals with brother his Tazio collecting four silver medals. Eli Dawe and Evey Kyle each brought home one silver and Katie McKie won one bronze medal.

17-year-old Ilman qualified for the ManSask provincial qualifying times in three events.

“As a senior female athlete, it has been hard to stay focused and motivated through some challenging years. Hard work, perseverance and positive self-talk are the key to success” said head coach Janet Hyslop. “I am proud of her accomplishments and look forward to see her setting her sites on university swimming.”

Next on the docket for the Illman and Kyle is the ManSask Provincial Championships in Saskatoon Dec. 13-16. Gabe Mastromatteo will return to the pool post injury to test his speed against the best juniors in Canada at the Ontario Junior International in Toronto Dec. 14-16.
