Kenora high school win­ter court sport teams open sea­sons

Win­ter court sport sea­sons at Kenora high schools got un­der­way this week.

The Beaver Brae Bron­cos were busy this week, play­ing two NorWOSSA ‘AA’ league games against Fort Frances and Dry­den. On Tues­day, Dec. 4 the Bron­cos hosted the Fort Frances Muskies. Both bas­ket­ball teams beat the Muskies. The se­nior boys won a tight 71-70 bat­tle, Bray­den Mar­tin and Matthew Meekis led the way of­fen­sively with 18 and 16 points re­spec­tively. The ju­nior boys won 58-34.

Bronco vol­ley­ball teams did not fare as well, as both the se­nior and ju­nior girls fell to the Muskies in straight sets.

The Bron­cos were back in ac­tion Thurs­day on the road in Dry­den. The se­nior boys’ bas­ket­ball team found them­selves on the los­ing end of a close game fall­ing 53-50 to the Ea­gles. The ju­nior boys won 57-33 to re­main un­de­feated on the year.

In vol­ley­ball, the se­nior girls fell to Dry­den 3-1 while the ju­nior girls won a closely con­tested five match set 3-2.

The St. Thomas Aquinas Saints trav­elled to Red Lake Tues­day, Dec. 4 to take on the Rams. The Saints recorded a clean sweep with all four teams tak­ing home two points. The se­nior boys’ bas­ket­ball team won 63-35, Nick Zroback had 19 points in the win. The ju­nior boys won a nail biter 39-38 with Jack Scott and Ken­dazz White both with eight points.

Over on the vol­ley­ball court the Saints se­nior girls’ vol­ley­ball team won 3-0 (25-6, 25-17, 25-6). The ju­nior girls also won 3-0 (25-11, 25-3, 25-10).

Next up for the Bron­cos is a road date with the Fort Frances Muskies Tues­day, Dec. 11. The Saints will play the Rams in NorWOSSA ‘A’ league play again Wed­nes­day, Dec. 12 in Kenora.
