Introduction to the Joint issue

Every year, The Mcgill Daily and Le Délit join forces to produce an issue that acknowledges our common history. We have been working side by side as independent student newspapers with distinct editorial lines since 1977. Beyond our common roots, we share the purpose to select and critically examine issues that tend to be absent from the mainstream media.

For this issue, we have chosen the theme of Outloud! to highlight the importance of visible and vocal activism in bringing about change. We also shed light on how voice and sound – through music, radio, and other means – can empower marginalized communities. In the following pages, we spotlight instances of activism, call attention to the work of campus groups, and examine how publicly available information can encourage democracy.
