Several current members of the Township of Russell municipal council have already decided if they will run again in the October 22 municipal elections.

For Mayor Pierre Leroux, the choice is already clear. He most certainly intends to run.

« I always said that I would stay in the field as long as I enjoyed doing my job, and I must admit that I love it,” said Leroux. “If you would have asked me about politics 10 years ago, I would have never thought about it, but then I fell in love with the job. So yes, I will represent myself. If the residents want me back, that would be best and, if not, well that’s politics.»

With respect to Councillor Jamie Laurin, he is 95 per cent certain he will seek another fouryear term. « At the moment, I would say that my decision is yes, but a lot can change between January and May,» said Laurin. “In the next four years, I want to see c o nt i nued work for water and sewer services at the 417 Industrial Park and I want to see the shovel in the ground for the sports complex,» he commented.

André Brisson also wishes to run for another term. « As of right now, it is my intention to run again as a councillor,» he said. Among the files that are close to his heart, the relocation of the Embrun library is among them. «We are working on it now and I hope to have something concrete, even before the elections.»

For Amanda Simard, on the other hand, it is too early to tell as he is currently running as a candidate for the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party for the Glengarry- Prescott-Russell region in the next provincial election on June 7. Depending on the outcome, she may or may not be available.

«One thing is certain, however, and that is that if there is working to be done, I will continue to serve,” she said. “My commitment to my community, my region, is unshakable.»

Councillor Cindy Saucier is currently undecided. “There are still many things I want to do, but I have to discuss it with my family to be sure, since it is another four-year commitment,” she said. “It has been a positive experience and this council runs well together.”
