Canada Summer Jobs deadline extended
The Canada Summer Jobs 2018 application period has been extended until Friday, February 9.
All non-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with up to 50 employees are eligible to apply for funding from the federal government through this program. In Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, the priority sectors focus on tourism, culture, non-profit organizations, small businesses, agriculture and francophone stakeholder groups. However, all eligible applicants are encouraged to apply. The deadline has been extended by an extra week.
The purpose of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to create summer job opportunities for full-time students, aged 15 to 30, who intend to return to their studies the following year. This allows students to gain valuable work experience, while also being able to earn money to pay for their educations. This program simultaneously encourages students, small businesses, non-profit and community development.
“I encourage Glengarry-Prescott-Russell not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses to apply for funding through the Canada Summer Jobs program,” said Francis Drouin, MP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell. “Helping young Canadians develop their skills and gain valuable workplace experience will ensure a strong economy and a healthy middle class.”
Non-profit employers are eligible to receive up to 100 per cent of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage, while public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer full-time employees are eligible for up to 50 per cent. All employers may be eligible for additional funding of up to $3000 per student with disabilities.
Since 2016, the federal government has increased its investments in the Canada Summer Jobs Program, by allocating an additional $339 million over three years.
