Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) granted $506,300 to Valoris, to launch a Positive Parenting Program project.

The announcement of the half million-dollar grant was made at the Valoris for Children and Adults of Prescott-Russell Rockland office, on Friday, March 23. The Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) supports the positive development of children and youth facing challenges. The program equips adults with resources for positive parenting.

The $ 506 300 grant was awarded to Valoris by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) and will be spread over three years. The money will be used to increase the accessibility of the Triple P program to the people of Prescott-Russell. The goal is that

this grant will enable the program to reach approximately 800 children and youth across the region over the three years.

“This grant will help promote positive parenting in Prescott-Russell and ensure that our partners hear about the Triple P approach, so that they too can benefit from the training and include the approach in their interventions with families,” said Valoris Executive Director Hélène Fournier.

MPP Grant Crack was also present for the announcement in Rockland, where he congratulated Valoris on successfully receiving the OTF grant. “Adults will be better equipped to prepare the youngest ones to develop and help them grow into confident adults,” said Crack. “That is a plus for the community.”

The Triple P program focuses on the nurture of strong relationships and good communication and comprehension between parents and young children and teenagers. The program offers strategies to help parents better understand their children’s behaviours, as well as tools on how to communicate about one another’s thoughts and feelings in a positive light.

The program has been developed based on over 30 years of clinical research and is currently used in more than 25 countries around the world.

“In offering a range of services for the children and adults of Prescott-Russell, Valoris successfully demonstrated the importance of the Triple P program, said Jacques Héroux, volunteer with the Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant Review Team. “This is why the foundation is proud to support this initiative at expanding the accessibility of this internationally-recognized program to support children facing obstacles.”
