Honorary Colonel Demers set the bar high
On September 7th, Colonel Luc Guillette, Commanding Officer of 2 Wing, presided at the inauguration ceremony of his new Honorary Colonel, Lotfi Ghattas. The arrival of Mr. Ghattas at this position also marked the retirement of Honorary Colonel Roger Demers, who has been Honorary Colonel since 2013.
Mr. Demers was the first Honorary Colonel of 2 Wing. His involvement, his simplicity and his dedi- cation were apparent those who knew him. all During the five years of his tenure Mr. Demers kept himself busy. From 2013 to 2018, he avidly worked to promote the Wing through the RCAF and his other honorary colonels. He contributed to the outreach of the unit to influential institutions in Saguenay and Quebec. He was the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Friends of the RCA Foundation from 2013 to 2015. This foundation sup- ports, among other things, the Air Defense Museum in Bagotville and, under his direction, has set an additional goal, added support for military families. Recently, Mr. Demers was awarded the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers in recognition of his significant volunteer contributions. Mr. Demers' five years as Honorary Colonel of 2 Wing marked the short history of the unit and set a very high bar for his successors.
