Operation Popcorn

Le Vortex de Bagotville - - NEWS -

The popularity of popcorn is undeniable and over the past few years, an International Popcorn Day was instated f o r J a n u a r y 1 9 t h ! Several organizations also take advantage of this popularity to finance their activities. This is the case for Scouts Canada, which also offers the opportunity to those who want to encourage the organization, but do not want popcorn to donate it to support Canadian Armed Forces troops. That’s in this context, in the spring of 2018, that Bagotville's Personnel Support Programs ( PSP) team won a major national sponsorship of microwavable popcorn, with more than 25,000 bags being delivered to the Base.

The idea may seem appealing, but distributing 25,000 bags of popcorn is no easy task. Op Popcorn thus came into effect, beginning last spring when a massive distribution of popcorn was made during the operations surrounding the holding of the G7 summit. Since this summer popcorn has also been made available as a self- serve snack on Thursdays at the barn. Feel free to stop by and enjoy! In November, packages were prepared using the Deploy- ment Support Center ( DSC) to send a little happiness to members on overseas missions at Christmas. Meanwhile on base, a massive distribution is under way to all the military and civilian personnel of the Base, which began early December. This popcorn sponsorship will also provide an additional contribution to the Panier du Bonheur which collects nonperishable food that will be redistributed to people in need, via the St. Vincent de Paul Society of La Baie. The PSP team is hoping to increase your "Happiness Factor" this holiday season with little touches like Op Popcorn. In other news, the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services has focused on the development of numerous partnerships with businesses and organizations across the country and locally, more and more associations and businesses are offering exclusive services or preferential rates to community members. Some examples of these partnerships can be found in the pages of this journal, in the section devoted to the 20182019 winter outdoor programs. We invite you to take a look and enjoy the savings.
