Mass vaccination will start shortly
The vaccination campaign for CFB Bagotville soldiers against COVID-19 will begin shortly as the first major vaccine delivery is expected to arrive in a few days.
It is expected that three more shipments of Moderna's vaccine will follow this first shipment of 600 doses, allowing the official launch of the mass vaccination campaign of the military according to the priorities established by the Canadian government and the Department of National Defense, on April 19th.
Through a message sent to all Bagotville soldiers, Colonel Normand Gagné and Chief Warrant Officer Pascal Turcotte invite members to learn about the vaccine and its benefits before the campaign begins in order to make an informed decision.
“Chief Warrant Officer Turcotte and I strongly urge all members to get vaccinated, but I want all members to make an informed decision. We provide them with a lot of information about the vaccine and how it works. Everyone must take the time to read the documents and watch the video produced on this subject by Dr. Cédrik Poirrier, ”insists the captain.
Same story with the acting chief physician of the Bagotville clinic, Captain Tina
Tannous. “The vaccine is the key to regaining normal life,” she says, recalling that vaccines like Moderna's have not appeared suddenly in a year especially to fight COVID19. “The messenger RNA vaccine, like Moderna's, has been in development for over 30 years and has been shown to be effective and safe,” adds Dr. Tannous.
Military personnel can find information about the COVID-19 vaccine by viewing the video presentation on CFB Bagotville's Facebook information page, visiting the base bulletin board to view the Forces Health Group presentation Canadian or the explanatory leaflet on this subject. It is also suggested to read the message from the Canadian Armed Forces General Surgeon on vaccination against COVID-19.
As soon as the first doses of vaccine arrive in Bagotville, the soldiers will be invited through their chain of command to go to the vaccination clinic according to the established order of priority. On days when the operation is underway, it is expected that 100 soldiers will be vaccinated between 12:45 p.m. and 4 p.m.
If the deliveries go as planned, all soldiers who want it should be vaccinated before July.
