Cinema is back at CFB Bagotville

After more than 10 years of absence, the cinema is back at CFB Bagotville with three films a week.

The presentation of films at the base auditorium had been abandoned at the end of 2011 in favor of an agreement with the Chicoutimi cinema, which had added performances in English to its programming.

With the objectives of occupancy and optimal use of the premises available to the PSPs, the idea was born to present films again in the auditorium, largely underused according to the community recreation manager, Audrey Lecours. “We came up with the idea of bringing the cinema back to provide an additional entertainment opportunity for members and their families who live close to base. Sometimes, as a mother, we look for opporfilm tunities to get out of the house with the children,” explains the manager.

The development of digital film distribution platforms has greatly facilitated the return of cinema to Bagotville. The choice to program less recent films, which therefore cost less, also contributed to the launch of the project. “Presenting films as soon as they are released as we did before is expensive. You have to obtain licenses which often cost several hundred dollars per presentation. This is why we chose a subscription to a platform that offers us films a few months after their release, but before they are available on other online rental sites,” explains Ms. Lecours.

At the moment, the base cinema presents three films a week, including a family on Saturdays presented twice, once in English and once in French. “At the moment, we are in the running-in period. We will adapt to requests and attendance. The Saturday family movie is the one that attracts the most people, but we are still at the start of the experience,” explains Audrey Lecours.

Suggestions from members are therefore welcome with regard to programming. If you fancy watching movies on the big screen at the base cinema, it will cost you $4 plus tax per person. Snacks (popcorn, chocolate, etc.) are only $2 plus tax.

Note that wearing a mask is always mandatory. We must also respect the distance and stay in a bubble. However, members can now invite nonmembers again. This rule applies to all sports and leisure activities.
