Energy saving program implementation is completed
The energy savings project at CFB Bagotville officially ended in December 2022 with the completion of the installation of two of the three new efficient boilers in the thermal power plant. The Bagotville Real Estate Operations Detachment is proud to start the new year by operating buildings in a more economical, resilient, and consistent way with the fight against climate change.
With its sustainable development strategy, the federal government wanted to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its buildings by 40% by 2025. With the measures implemented, CFB Bagotville will achieve a reduction of 41% (3,026 tonnes) by the end of 2023, in addition to saving more than $417,000 per year in energy. These savings, combined with grants from Hydro-Québec and Énergir, will fully repay the $10.9 million investment in 15 years.
The Johnson Control Company, which was entrusted with the work, implemented various strategies to achieve these goals.
The first step was to modernize the equipment of the base's thermal power plant. Three of the four steam boilers have been replaced by new, more modern ones using less energyconsuming technologies. Electric boilers have also been installed in key buildings to extend the summer closure of the thermal power station. Heat pumps were also chosen to supply the sports center with heating and domestic hot water.
Another key element of this program has been to reduce energy consumption at source in the 94 buildings targeted by the project by adopting different approaches (control strategies, lighting upgrades, lowflow showerheads and faucets , insulation of steam lines, etc.).
Finally, the Bagotville Real Estate Operations Detachment reminds us that everyone can do their part to help ensure the sustainability of the project's impacts. To find out more, watch for the logo appearing on this page and follow the various awareness initiatives!
