A New Chapter for Boyd Training Center

-

After providing significant service to 2 Wing, the Boyd Training Center will be vacating Hangar 3 at Canadian Forces Base Bagotville.

On March 27, 2024, the Boyd Training Center at CFB Bagotville held its final training session. Delivered by 2 Air Expeditionary Training Squadron (2 AETS), the course provided training to members tasked with supporting the Wing Operation Center of an Air Task Force (ATF).

The Boyd Training Center was inaugurated five years ago, in May 2019. This semi -permanent training facility was named in honor of MWO Gilles Boyd, who served with 2 AETS from 2012 until his passing in 2016. MWO Boyd served the Royal Canadian Air Force for 34 years and played a crucial role in the development of the collective training program offered by 2 AETS.

Over the years, the Boyd Training Center has hosted numerous training sessions, including the collective training for ATFs deploying to Operation REASSURANCE –Romania, Operation IMPACT – Kuwait, and Operation PRESENCE – Uganda. In addition, 2 AETS has used the Boyd Training Center to instruct the Reconnaissance Course for members of 2 Wing’s Airfield Activation and Surge Team (AFAST).

For now, shorter training sessions will be held at various locations within CFB Bagotville until the opening of the new Air Force Expeditionary Capability facility in 2026. Meanwhile, the annual validation Exercise PHOENIX WARRIOR will continue to take place at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Valcartier, to enhance the realism of a deployment for members new to 2 Wing.

The legacy of the Boyd Training Center will endure through the skills acquired by personnel of 2 Wing during the numerous exercises and training sessions held there.

In memory of MWO Gilles Boyd.
