CCH blanks Chinook in Tier II playoffs
Catholic Central Cougars advanced to the next round of the Tier II regional high school football playoffs with a 20-0 victory over the Chinook Coyotes on Friday night at U of L Stadium.
Cougars will head to Medicine Hat High next Friday to play Hat High Mohawks in the regional Tier II championship game.
In other playoff action Friday, Cardston Cougars downed the Winston Churchill Bulldogs 57-6 in Tier III play to advance to the provincial quarter-finals on Nov. 12.
In Tier IV semifinal play, host Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras topped the Pincher Creek Mustangs 27-6 to earn a berth in the provincial finals.
Nick Anderson scored on a 24-yard run in the first quarter, while Nelson O'Donnell added a 10-yard TD in the second quarter. After a Pincher Creek major late in the second narrowed the score to 14-6, Mike Berryman blocked a punt and recovered it in the endzone early in the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-6. A Logan Currie-to-Nic Harder TD pass closed out the scoring in the fourth.
Prior to provincials, Willow Creek will travel to Taber to play W.R. Myers Rebels for the Tier IV regional championship next Friday.
Regional playoff action continues next Thursday in Tier 1 with the LCI Rams hosting the Raymond Comets at 7 p.m. at U of L Stadium.
