CANstruction returns to aid food banks

EVENT CHALLENGES TEAMS TO CREATE CANNED-FOOD SCULPTURES

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

Creative team members will once again display a “can do” attitude to benefit local food banks.

Associated Engineering along with Save-On-Foods will bring another edition of CANstruction to Lethbridge starting Thursday.

In this event, teams come together from various industries to build unique structures entirely out of canned food. The results are evaluated by a panel of judges in a number of categories, including Peoples Choice. When the event comes to a close, the food will be donated to Interfaith Food Bank Society of Lethbridge, Lethbridge Food Bank and Lethbridge College Food Bank to help stock the shelves and assist people in need in Lethbridge and area.

As a final element, photos of the winning projects are submitted to an international competition, where they compete with the best CANsculptures from across North America.

Additional sponsors for the charity event include MPE Engineering, Stone Age Granite, Tetra Tech, KPMG, Melcor, Whissell Contracting Ltd. and Design Signs.

Last year’s event raised more than 2,000 pounds of food, which equates to over $5,300 in support.

Structures will be “CANstructed” on Thursday beginning at 11 a.m., and will be on display at Centre Village Mall during mall hours until March 22. “DeCANstruction” takes place on March 23.
