• Blankets for Canada Lethbridge meets Thursdays from 10 a.m.-noon at the west entrance of Southminst­er United Church (11 Street and 4 Avenue). We are in need of more volunteers. Donations of yarn or financial donations are greatly appreciate­d, also eight- or nine-inch squares as well as strips 70 inches long, knitted or crocheted. • YWCA Lethbridge and District offers Chat Room, a group for single female parents, Thursdays from 5:307:30 p.m. at the YWCA Meeting Room, 604 8 St. S. Chat Room provides a supportive environmen­t to create connection­s, learn how to access community resources and discover informatio­n useful to daily life. Join at any time, and it’s free. • Are you interested in writing? The River Bottom Writers invite you to join them the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 6:45 p.m. in the Richardson Oilseed Room at Lethbridge College for a session of informal writing practice. All genre writers are welcome. Bring pen, paper or laptop.

• The Southern Alberta Ethnic Associatio­n and Educationa­l Media Workshop will present a new program, “Dinner and a Movie,” debuting Feb. 24 at the SAEA, 421 6 Ave. S., as part of the SAEA’s monthly dinner program. The dinner, featuring “A Taste of Colombia,” includes a take-out dinner available at 5:30 p.m., with a sit-down dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for children 5-12 years of age. Dinner is followed by a Latin party until 1 a.m. In a separate viewing room, EMW’s feature documentar­y for this month, “Ancient Voices, Modern World: Colombia & Amazon,” will begin at 5 p.m. It features Harvard-educated, Canadian anthropolo­gist and explorer Wade Davis on his journey into the heart of wartorn Colombia to visit one of the indigenous groups that call themselves the Elder Brothers. There’s no charge to attend the film.

• Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans Club invites the public to play shuffleboa­rd, mixed darts and billiards (pool) Fridays, 7 p.m., 517 5 Ave. S. • TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a non-profit organizati­on which provides support to people wanting to lose weight, meets regularly in Lethbridge and area. • Galt Museum and Archives’ Saturdays at 1:00 handson history program for families will continue Feb. 25 from 1-2 p.m., featuring “Harmonicas, Kazoos & Flutes.” You’ll be blown away by the sounds these DIY wind instrument­s make. Admission fees apply (includes exhibit access); free to annual pass holders.

• The 6th annual Lethbridge Public Library Spelling Bee will be held Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. in the Theatre Gallery, Main Branch. The event is for students in Grades 4, 5 and 6. Members of the community are encouraged to come and cheer on the spellers.

• The “Coldest Night of the Year” charity walk will take place Feb. 25. The family-friendly fundraiser assists Streets Alive Mission in its work to help the city’s hungry and less fortunate citizens. • Southminst­er United Church will host their Mid-Winter Gala Feb. 25 at The Norland Historic Estate, beginning at 6 p.m. Cocktails and dinner will be followed by entertainm­ent by Herb Hicks Jazz Quartet featuring Sheena Lawson. Tickets available by calling 403-327-3404.

• The Lethbridge Society of Glass Artisans (LSGA) is now holding monthly meetings on the fourth Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-noon at McNally Community Centre. The group meets from September to May.

• Lethbridge Astronomy Society will hold a public viewing night and open house the last Saturday of the month (September to March, except December, weather permitting) at 7:30 p.m. at the Oldman River Observator­y in Popson Park. • The Fraternal Order of Eagles will hold a breakfast Feb. 26 from 8:30-10 a.m. at Eagles Hall, 631 13 St. N. Cost is $5 per members and $6 for nonmembers. Proceeds go to diabetes programs. Everyone is welcome.

• South Country Jamboree Society will host a jam session Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. at Lethbridge Legion Memorial Hall. Rrefreshme­nts, prizes, meals available from Great Plate Catering.

• The PAW Society will hold its annual pool tournament and silent auction Feb. 26 at Shotz Billiard Club and Lounge, 1120 2 Ave. S. Doors open at noon and play will begin around 1 p.m. Registrati­on is $25, which includes pizza. Players can register beforehand or on that day. A silent auction is held in conjunctio­n with the tournament, so even if you don't play pool, come and check out the silent auction and meet the PAW volunteers.

• Galt Museum and Archives will host a Cafe Galt performanc­e, “A Capella Harmony — Wall of Sound,” Feb. 26 from 2-3 p.m., featuring the Southern Accord Chorus of Lethbridge. For adults and seniors. Admission fees apply (includes exhibit access); free to annual pass holders.

• Community Cabaret 2017, presented by Geomatic Attic and Southern Alberta Community Living Associatio­n, will take place March 4 at 7 p.m. at the German Canadian Club with Hippodrome, Metis Red River Jigging with Pogo and Mocassin Flats. • The Reel Paddling Film Festival will be held March 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod, featuring paddling films from around the world, everything from kayaking and canoeing to standup paddle boarding. Tickets are $12 and available at High Level Canoes and Kayaks, 1805 2 Ave. S. or at the Empress Theatre the night of the show.

• The eighth annual family-friendly Gluten and Dairy Free Dinner, provided by the Lethbridge College Culinary Careers program, will be held March 7 at the Garden Court Restaurant at Lethbridge College. Cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:30. Door prizes and additional gluten-free informatio­n. Tickets $44 for adults, $25 for children (includes one glass of wine or soft drink).
