One of two men charged in connection to a standoff with police earlier this month finally has a lawyer and may seek his release from custody later this week.

Brian Tarbet Fulljames, who has been remanded at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre since shortly after his arrest Feb. 10, was in court Monday where an agent for the accused’s lawyer adjourned the matter until Thursday for a bail hearing.

A co-accused, Forrest Jensen, also has a city lawyer and was released from custody Feb. 16 on $100 surety. He was ordered to live with his sister on the westside and placed on house arrest, although he’s allowed out with some exceptions. He is also prohibited from possessing weapons and consuming alcohol and drugs.

Jensen’s matter is also scheduled to return to court Thursday.

The standoff with police began after an officer went to a home on Dalhousie Court West to arrest a man on outstanding warrants. As the suspect was being placed under arrest he struggled with the officer.

The officer pulled out his sidearm after another man in the house grabbed a knife. The man slid several knives across the floor to his friend, who threatened to get a gun and ran into another room.

The officer left the home and police cordoned off the neighbourhood. The suspects finally left the residence four hours later and were taken into custody. Police seized weapons and property during a search of the residence.

Fulljames, 27, is charged with two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and one count each of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and resisting arrest. Jensen, 19, is charged with single counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and resisting arrest.
