Kisio didn’t hold back

- Dylan Purcell

“It was a physical game. There was some animosity. They have a classless coach over there that is probably the most classless guy in our league. It’s unfortunate it happens, but I thought our guys played hard.”

That was Lethbridge Hurricanes coach Brent Kisio to Lethbridge Herald reporter Dale Woodard after his team lost 3-1 to the Moose Jaw Warriors Wednesday in Lethbridge.

Sounds like we might have a rivalry in the Western Hockey League.

Keep in mind, at the end of their previous game, Brett Howden of the Warriors fed his stick to the Canes’ Jadon Joseph at the game’s last faceoff.

So, it’s understandable that Kisio was a little ticked off. Add in that the Canes were listless for most of the game Wednesday and the Warriors were embarrassed 3-0 last time they played, and it’s understandable the coaches’ emotions were high.

As for calling Hunter classless, all I know is what I saw from the former Calgary Flame as a hockey fan cheering for the Edmonton Oilers. The adjective classless works for me.

If Kisio, who gives away quite a bit in the height and weight department to Hunter, is at all worried, he can just put a photo of Dave Semenko in his pocket. That’ll keep Hunter at bay. ••• I’ll always have a soft spot for Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s basketball coach Brad Karren. He’s devious, devilish and often dastardly but sure can put together a basketball team.

His undefeated Kodiaks host the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference women’s basketball championships beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday at the college.

If you have time, head out to a game and support the college. In the landscape of the city, it makes as big an impact as the University of Lethbridge, albeit with less fanfare. Lethbridge College is often derided by locals as “Last Chance College” but take a look around the community and you’ll see some of our best and brightest were educated there.

Certainly, my time as a student there in the late 1990s helped me get a job at The Herald.
