Minor midget Canes keep winning

The Lethbridge Headwater minor midget AAA Hurricanes posted three home wins over the past week.

The Hurricanes defeated the Medicine Hat SEAC Tigers 10-2 Wednesday night at Nicholas Sheran Arena and added two more wins Saturday and Sunday with a 6-1 decision over the Calgary CRAA Blue and a 5-2 win over the Rockyview Raiders during Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League action.

With the trio of wins, the Hurricanes head into the final weekend of the regular season at 27-2-6, good for first place in the South Division and two points up on the Calgary CBHA Blackhawks, who defeated the Canes Feb. 19 in Calgary.

In the win over the Tigers, Griffen Fraser, Michael Horon, Daniel Anton and Tayler Miller each scored twice and Roc Truman and Mason Sande added one each.

Fraser added two assists for a fourpoint night. Anton had an assist for three points.

Truman and Sande had an assist for two points each.

Carson Dyck had three assists and Reece Becker had two helpers.

Carl Tetachuk made 19 saves in the win.

On Saturday against the Blue, Matthew Vogelaar scored twice and Sande, Truman, Horon and James Halverson scored once.

Truman added three assists for a fourpoint game and Vogelaar had an assist for three points.

Sande had an assist for two points and Cale Lyons had two assists. Logan Leroux made 12 saves. In Sunday’s win over the Raiders, Horon, Sande, Truman, Anton and Dyck were the Lethbridge goal scorers.

Anton chipped in with an assist for two points.

Miller and Vogelaar added two assists each and Tetachuk had 14 stops in the win.

The Hurricanes wrap up the regular season on the road this weekend.

The team is in Calgary Saturday to take on the CNHA Canucks and finish their schedule when they face off against the Calgary CRAA Gold on Sunday.
